Heart of the Hudson pendants are created with the historical remnants of ceramicware found along the Hudson River. These small pieces of broken plates, cups and decorative items originated from the discards of local families of the Hudson Valley. They include imports from England, France, Germany and Japan as well as those locally manufactured during the late 1700’s to the mid 1950’s from Manhattan through upstate.

I utilize the pieces as I find them and do not break or alter them. The edges of the Porcelain, Ironstone, Redstone and Salt-Glazed stoneware have been softened by the river. The original patterns and designs, although faded, represent the varied styles of the period. These unique pieces honor the history of the Hudson River Valley through the ceramicware found along its shores.
